Been thinking a lot about what to do in many aspects in my life. How I want to shape my future. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with the possibilities, what my next step should be and how to make the best of my time to get there. I take solace in this quote:
"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer." - Rainer Maria Rilke

This weekend
Standing next to my Dad and a waterfall is the only time I seem short.
Had a great time with the Parental Units visiting me in Portland this weekend.
This exact time last year, straight down to the same week, I got off of a plane in Jackson to be told that my Dad had cancer. A year later, this very week, my Dad got off of a plane in Portland, and I got to see him well for the first time. It makes my heart so happy.

Tooth Fairy vs. Tooth Doctor
As a child, I was taught that when you loose a tooth, you receive a quarter from the Tooth Fairy. When you grow older, however, that magical Tooth Fairy mutates into a middle-aged man wielding dental equipment. He does the opposite, giving you new teeth, and taking much...much, much, much, more than a quarter for it.
I've never had a cavity in my life until recently. All at once I found out there were four! It was my fault, between not flossing and letting too much time go by before getting them checked out. I kind of thought I was immune to cavities.
I got everything done by Dr. Bolouri. I recommend him and his staff to anyone with a toothache in Portland!
They had to shave down my front tooth to prepare it for a crown:
The best (and by best, I mean funniest) compliment I've ever received was, "I've never met a girl from Mississippi with all her teeth before. You seem pretty cool." And now that statement is false.

"My name is Emily, I'm from Mississippi, and I don't have all my teeth."

A List of Repairs
This morning, I got two teeth fixed...
After that, the sole of my shoe ripped almost clean off. I fixed it, but now it sounds funny when I walk.
Before all of this happened, as I was waking up this morning, my Dad sent me a text message that read,
"Bone marrow negative"
He has been going through cancer treatment for about a year. The bone marrow test was the last test he needed to confirm his full recovery! His eyebrows have been growing back and his hair is starting to come in again. He beat cancer!
So, three things were repaired today: my teeth, my sole, and my Dad.

I don't want to post the version I have, because it's unfinished. The youtube one is the final.

The lead character's bounties:
So this is one of the first projects I worked on at Bent Image Lab. I have always wanted to make music videos...ever since, let's see....the fifth grade? I helped on this piece by designing the spaceship, building the model, animating, compositing...I co-built the live action cockpit too!
Enjoy the music video. This marks a milestone for me in my book of, Things I Want to Accomplsih!. I just hope there are more for me in the future!

Fancy Footwork, Anifest, and Puppets in Prague
These are images from my latest very, very short film called Fancy Footwork, produced at Bent Image Lab. I submitted it to Anifest in Trebon, Czech Republic. I might be attending a puppet workshop in Prague, which is 2 hours away from Trebon, around the same time as the festival. Cross your fingers for me.

Going to the workshop and the festival depends on a few different factors that are now waning (financial and others). Such is life.
If it doesn't get in, and if I don't make it to Prague or Trebon this summer, I will not be terribly disappointed. I already consider the opportunity to make the film a personal triumph (because it's the first time I've ever been paid to animate!). I tried, and I might fail, but I'm happy about the trying part.
